This just in … The next Battlefield game has been revealed, and it is BATTLEFIELD 1.
Just as the rumors were predicting, the game will take place in World War I, which developers call the “dawn of all-out war.” For this reason, this can be looked at as the genesis of modern warfare, and thus the title “Battlefield 1” instead of “Battlefield 5.” Check out the official trailer!
Here is what we know so far:
Battlefield 1 will take us on missions “around the world.” Locations include the Western Front, the Italian Alps, and the deserts of Arabia.
BF1 will explore the “divergent technology” of war. Expect a wide variety of tanks, each with unique individual characteristics, plenty of aerial combat with biplanes and zeppelins (that’s what that shadow was across the soldier’s face in the teaser), and more.
There is going to be a strong focus on close combat and more of a “personal, brutal, gritty” feel than previous BF titles. Melee weapons will include bayonets, maces, and even shovels. Also expect your usual range of pistols, shotguns, rifles and machineguns, as well as flamethrowers. There will be advanced weapons customization and even chemical warfare. The focus here is all on creating a totally immersive combat experience.
You will now be able to ride a HORSE into combat. Whether the horse can actually help you fight is unclear at this point, but it does seem implied you will have some level of control over it (this is very exciting, so hopefully this will be clarified soon).
Solo play will still be available, but there is going to be a huge emphasis on squad play, as well as a cool new system that allows you to jump from server to server and experience to experience seamlessly.
“The game will deliver a fresh experience full of what makes Battlefield great, with a multiplayer sandbox, immersion, epic scale, authenticity, team play and an ever-changing world full of unexpected Battlefield moments,“ says Aleksander Grøndal, Senior Producer, DICE. “We’re inviting players on an epic journey across a war-torn world, taking them to the Great War and providing something both varied and unique in Battlefield 1.”
The developers have promised that more news will drop soon (as far as we’re concerned, it can’t be soon enough)!
The release date for Battlefield 1 has been confirmed as October 21st. You can get the game on October 18th if you pre-order.
