Whether you are a diehard COD fan or you are just a gamer keeping up with the latest news on one of the biggest franchises of all time, you are doubtless aware that Call of Duty has taken some serious flak this year. When the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was posted on YouTube earlier this year, more than 3 million people hit “dislike” on it, making it one of the most disliked videos ever posted on YouTube.
Well, all of that finally looks like it is changing. A new video clip of a cutscene has just been posted on the official COD channel on YT:
There is no action here, just dialogue. This change of pace seems to be paying off well for the game, as this video is doing a lot better than the trailer. It still has a ton of dislikes, but it has more than twice as many likes.
In any case, it does seem that the demise of Call of Duty has been somewhat exaggerated. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has even gone so far as to point out that Black Ops 2, one of the most successful games ever in the franchise, previously had the company’s most disliked game trailer. He has also stated that, “We didn’t see that reaction on other platforms and in other metrics. We didn’t see it in our pre-order momentum, we didn’t see it even in the same exact [trailer posting] on other platforms, like Facebook.”
In short, the dislikes on the reveal trailer might well be meaningless when it comes to overall popularity and sales. It is even possible that not all of them were organic. That theory seems supported now by the increasing interest and enthusiasm we are seeing for the game both on YT and on other channels.
Infinite Warfare will be released on November 4th on PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Get in those pre-orders so you can enjoy the free bonuses!
