Last week, we reported that Niantic might be teaming up with Starbucks and announcing a new generation of Pokemon. It turns out that the partnership is actually with Sprint, making the cellular carrier the first US sponsor for Pokemon Go. As part of the deal, Sprint’s 10,500 US locations will all be turned into Pokemon Gyms or PokeStops—and yes, we are getting a new generation of Pokemon!
Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure referred to the new Pokemon as “Gen 2.” Niantic still has not provided any details, though CEO John Hanke mentioned that, “not all Pokemon are created equal,” and added, “there are multiple families within the Pokemon universe.” He also said that this is only the beginning.
More details are expected to be announced on December 12th. We will update you then!
