Twitch has become so popular that streaming on the site is now built right into PS4 and Xbox One. Now gamers who are on PS4 can look forward to a major upcoming upgrade. Soon, a firmware update will make it possible to stream at 1080p and 60 frames per second on PS4 Pro.
With this frame rate, Twitch streams should be both smooth and clear, offering the highest level of quality currently available. While this is great news, the update is not entirely unexpected; with the cutting-edge hardware in PS4 Pro, it only makes sense to harness that power for better streaming.
Note that this news is not yet official. It is courtesy of Eurogamer, which claims to have gotten a hold of the release notes for the forthcoming update.
Along with the new streaming capabilities, firmware update 5.0 should include the following changes:
- You will be able to view system notifications through the quick menu. That way you do not need to visit the home screen. You will also be able to look at download and upload status here as well.
- If you have tiered family accounts on a single system, new control options will be available.
- You will be able to follow any user.
- There will be some other smaller changes as well like push notifications for events, new language support, the option to link broadcasts to a PlayStation Community, and on-screen spectator comments in VR mode while broadcasting.
As of right now, Sony has yet to make a public announcement about the release date for the update. All we know is that it is supposed to be coming up soon, probably at about the same time as an upgraded PlayStation App. The moment we hear a release date, we will let you know, so keep checking back!
