Could the new game be a prequel connected to Mafia 3?
After months of rumors surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2, we finally have something of substance to show to show you guys and gals. The below image is a map which was posted by a user by the name of Mideon on NeoGAF. He took it down, but thankfully for the rest of us, it was too late—the image had already made its rounds. According to Techradar, this is a “very recent art direction map.” The site also claims, “a source close to the development of the new Red Dead game has confirmed to us the map is indeed the real deal.”
Check it out. You can see the familiar location of the Great Plains and a number of islands (accessible by boat?). Note that there is no railroad, which gives further credence to the rumor that the second game will be a prequel to the first. Then again, the railroad is in the key.
Also look in the lower right and you will see New Bordeaux where Mafia 3 took place. Could there be a connection?
So far, neither Rockstar nor Take-Two have commented on the image nor confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is under development. Still, chef executive Strauss Zelnick has stated on a previous occasion that Red Dead Redemption is a “permanent” property like GTA, and that another game in the series is pretty much a given. So this map is very promising. If or when either company releases a statement or confirms the existence of the game, we’ll be the first to let you know!
