The Last of Us 2 concept art gives us a glimpse of what’s in store. Ellie, what have you done?

After months of wondering whether Naughty Dog was working on a sequel to The Last Of Us, we finally got our answer at PlayStation Experience with this amazing reveal trailer:

We don’t know a whole lot at this point.  In the trailer, we can see a lot of dead bodies—and we can see that Ellie is furious and plotting revenge.  Beyond that, we also have been told by creative director Neil Druckmann that this time around Ellie will be the playable character rather than Joel.  And that’s about it.

At the PlayStation Experience presentation however, the team did show off some concept art.  Let’s check it out and see if we can glean any more hints.

Ellie is serious about doling out revenge.

Here we see Ellie silhouetted against a background of fire.  There could be any explanation for this, but it gives the impression she set it.  As this is reportedly a game about hate and revenge, we can guess from this image that Ellie means serious business.

A lot has happened.

Ellie was 13 in the first game, and is 19 in this one.  After six years of living in a zombie-infested world, doubtless a lot has changed for both her and Joel.

Civilization is fading.

Gone is the urban environment of the first game, at least insofar as the art we have so far.  And judging by the state of these cars, it’s been a while since civilization collapsed.

The Fireflies are involved.

This isn’t concept art; this one is right out of the trailer.  That is the insignia for the Fireflies, but what is their role in the game?  Are they the ones Ellie wants to kill?  Or are they victims of the ones she wants to kill?  Ellie and Joel’s relationship with them in the previous game was complicated to say the least.

We don’t know how long we will have to wait for more details, but we will be sure to share the latest with you the moment any news drops.  So keep checking back with us!
