If you thought you’ve been involved in some epic MMO battles, here is one which literally made history at EVE Online.  A space battle between the allied Pandemic Legion and Northern Coalition against the joined forces of TEST and Circle-of-Two just culminated in the destruction of the M-OEE8 Keepstar battlestation, the game’s equivalent of a Death Star.

The entire battle was streamed live on Twitch, and it was a fierce one.  In total, more than 5,000 players spent 6 hours engaged in battle.  Eventually the attacking force managed to destroy the battlestation, but it was at a hefty cost: more than 2,000 ships, accounting for an in-game value of more than 270 billion ISK (around $300,000 in real-world currency).  It was the largest battle in the history of the game in terms of player involvement.  Read up on it over at EVE’s website here.
