There are a lot of rumors going around about what the next Call of Duty game could be—we have heard everything from World War II to Vietnam. But one thing which we have not heard a lot of gamers talking about is this: could another remaster be on its way?
It makes a lot of sense. The Modern Warfare remaster has done a lot to stimulate sales for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and there are a lot of other classic COD titles which gamers would love to be able to play on their modern consoles. Considering what a hit the Modern Warfare remaster has been, it would make zero sense for Activision to ignore this opportunity.
Now, since Sledgehammer Games is developing the next COD, you would think Modern Warfare 3 remastered would be the obvious choice … but it wouldn’t make sense chronologically. So it seems more probable that the next remaster will be Modern Warfare 2. Maybe another studio will take on that project, like High Moon Studios. This would leave Sledgehammer free to focus 100% on the next COD game—for now at least.
One could imagine an upcoming release cycle like this:
- 2016: Infinity Ward – Infinite Warfare & Modern Warfare Remastered
- 2017: Sledgehammer Games – New COD Game (possibly set in WWII or Vietnam) and Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
- 2018: Treyarch Games – World At War 2 and World At War Remastered
- 2019: Infinity Ward – Infinite Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 Remastered and Modern Warfare Remastered Trilogy
A remaster release cycle like this would just be ridiculously exciting … and it would do a lot to drive sales for future Call of Duty games!
